Plants vs Zombies Appview
February 18th, 2010Plants vs Zombies from Popcap has been finally released! After being delayed twice the best tower defense game finally makes it’s way to the iPhone/iPod. Ported to the touch system the game plays even better with the touch of your fingers. Being able to harvest sunlight and deploying your plants even faster makes the game superior to its PC counter part. But with great improvement comes stripping of content. The PC version came loaded with goodies and various modes but unfortunately that didn’t make it over to the touch version.
But that doesn’t mean this game isn’t any less amazing. You still get the whole campaign which is quite lengthy in itself, along with a quick play mode and achievements to garner. So what does PvZ bring to the tower defense market already crowded on the touch market? Well for one its Pop Cap and if its one thing done right here is the originality and comical aspect. This game is fantastic and very addicting.
With 48 different plants and 26 zombie types, day and night cycles, and different areas of your “houze” to defend, the game play stays quite fresh through the whole game. For 2.99 on the app store pick this one up with no hesitation, and once you finish it pick up its bigger brother on the PC. Hopefully they will be implementing new things via DLC for this version as it well deserves it.
BattleBlock Theater trailer released
February 3rd, 2010If you are wondering what the heck BattleBlock Theater is, its the indie developer The Behemoth’s third game. From the creators of Alien Hominid and Castle Crashers bring you BattleBlock Theater! Not much is known about this other then a short description that was posted on their blog. The game has been known as “Game 3″ but now has a name to be called. Being a huge fan of this indie developer, I am pretty excited to find out more about this title. With only a a morsel of information known about the game more will slowly be given out as we approach the titles Xbox Live Arcade release which is still unknown at this time. “Having shipwrecked on a mysterious island you find yourself both betrayed by your best friend Hatty and captured by the locals. All of this is happening while being forced into deadly performances. This however, is just the start of your problems.”
Appview – Valet Hero
February 1st, 2010Valet Hero is another entry in the line drawing genre that is quite unique. Developed by Game Gat0s, Valet Hero has you parking colored vehicles to colored spots, if you successfully match a color you net a bonus, so its encouraged. You have a variety of vehicles to park ranging from the slow truck to the much slower van all the way to the speedy sports car. With plenty of different game play elements the game stays fresh throughout, throwing in a chain meter to get a higher score, with even different point structures depending on how well you park your vehicle.
Valet Hero includes Open Feint integration which I openly welcome, just to put pressure on you to actually achieve a high score. Has five levels to unlock with each one having three difficulties and one marathon endless run. Difficulty gets up there and you will be cursing in no time. A pretty original title, innovating and adding to the line drawing genre. Be sure to pick it up for $.99 on the app store.
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Demo
January 31st, 2010The online only Battlefield Bad Company 2 Limited Edition demo was released on the 28th for the Xbox 360 to coincide with the closed PC Beta. It contains one map of rush on Port Valdez, which is a snow map with tanks, atv’s, and helicopters. As defenders you must prevent the opposing team from destroy the two crates at the designated spots. Once they are destroyed a portion of the map opens up and two new crates appear within the new area. With everything virtually destructible the battlefield is different every time you play. It’s only been a couple of days and I have already clocked in 15 hours, into a demo mind you. This is just one of four modes that will come packed in the new Bad Company, which include the classic capture the point, Conquest, Squad Rush which is a 4v4 version of Rush, and Squad Deathmatch which will have four teams of four battling it to the death. The game will include 15 vehicles, loads of weapons and perks, and a multiplayer expierince you can’t get anywhere else. Pick up Battlefield Bad Company 2 Limited Edition
on March 2nd for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC.

What do snow pirates and Gears of War have in common?
January 26th, 2010Check it out. Looks like Capcom and Epic Games are teaming up to bring you two characters from Gears of War. Does this mean there will be more characters coming to Lost Planet 2? I hope so, I would love me some Frank West. So far just Marcus and Dom are the only extra characters. Lost Planet 2 has a release date of May 20th.
DSi Warehouse.
January 20th, 2010Yesterday marked the release of an unreleased Capcom title that Jimmy Fallon won a contest to, Dark Void Zero. Now it has been ported to the DSi via the DSiware store. All part of an awesome faux mini advertisement campaign from Capcom. So in other words, Jimmy Fallon never won a contest and no it wasn’t originally made in the NES era 80′s. What a hoot Capcom, a HOOT. Capcom goes all 8bit on this one, Megaman revival style. Pick it up in the DSi store for 500 Nintendo bucks.
Alongside is Q-Games sleeper hit, with unfortunetly no marketing of any kind, is Starship Defense (Patrol in Europe). Tower defense comes to the DSi in a delightfully deep game with a fantastic presentation. Add turrets to your space fleet and defend it from the waves after waves of baddies in this deep and fresh take on the tower defense genre. This on will cost you another 500 Nintendo bucks.
Also don’t forget to check out Chronos Twins (EnjoyUp Games) for 500 points and Me and My Dogs:Friends Forever (Gameloft) for 800 points, because everyone doesn’t own Nintendogs yet.
Xbox Live Indie – Decimation X 80pts
January 16th, 2010Xona Games released Decimation X today, a bullet hell space invaders homage like shoot em’ up and it’s awesome. At first the game play starts out simple and as time passes it gets ridiculous as does your basic laser. You pick up falling power ups from the enemies you kill and upgrade your weapon from a tiny one shot laser to literally 80 lasers coming out of your ship at a million miles per hour. It’s a fantastic game for 80pts that you can’t pass up. Up to 4 players can join in on the bullet hell action at once to try to get the biggest score. No online leader boards unfortunately but it does say in the highscore section that it will be “coming soon”. These guys are still working on their previous title called Duality ZF which is another 4 player bullet hell shoot em’ up but much more complexity mixed in and with more freedom to move. They are in the works of getting it onto XBLA instead of the Indie games section.
Appview – Canabalt $2.99
January 14th, 2010Canabalt is as simple as it gets when it comes to gaming on the iPod Touch. You play as an unknown protagonist running on rooftops, avoiding junk in your way with buildings collapsing under your feet. You can see that they city you are in is getting demolish by aliens and alien ship’s flying around, that’s as deep as the story gets. The controls are beyond simplistic with just the tap of the screen you jump up allowing you to dodge and make those jumps.
The music is also wonders, with the opening telling you to play with headphones. This title supports online leader boards as well to see how good others in the world are doing, unfortunately it doesn’t support Open Feint . I’ve clocked in a good amount of time into this game and I can say it’s a solid title with excellent game play which makes it a must own for all touch owners. If you are hesitant on the price, try it out at Canabalt where you can play it for free.

Splinter Cell Conviction delayed once again. R.U.S.E joins the party.
January 13th, 2010Ubisoft announced today in a press release that it would be pushing Splinter Cell Conviction’s release from February 23, 2010 to sometime in April when the 2010-2011 fiscal year begins. Joining it in the delay will be tabletop real time strategy hybrid R.U.S.E. which has a release date in Q1 of this year.
“The postponed release dates for Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Conviction™ and R.U.S.E™, which were previously scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2009-10, and will now be released in 2010-11. Splinter Cell Conviction™ is now expected to hit the stores in April 2010.”
Well, count this as Conviction’s umpteenth delay, I’m quite ecstatic to play this game after last years E3 footage.
